Writing (Imaginative Arts Week)

 Writing

1. Finish Reading "The Princess Bride."
2. Write this passage from the book. (Sorry we didn't get the book last week.)

Buttercup looked at him. “Oh my Westley, so do I.”

From behind them suddenly, closer than they imagined, they could hear the roar of Humperdink: “Stop them! Cut them off!” They were, admittedly, startled, but there was no reason for worry: they were on the fastest horses in the kingdom, and the lead was already theirs.

However, this was before Inigo’s wound reopened; and Westley relapsed again; and Fezzik took the wrong turn; and Buttercup’s horse threw a shoe. And the night behind them was filled with the crescendoing sound of pursuit...

(There's a good chance I will be asking to see your copy work.)

3. Write 2 more pages in your handwriting books.  Bring them to class, completed to page 34.  I'm looking for people with improved handwriting to give extra cash to.  Those that don't have books completed will owe me $5.

4. Poetry

We have now learned about fragmented prose poetry in our Crot;
Rhyming, Rhythm, Syllables, Couplets, Rhyme Scheme, Figurative Language and Sound Devices (plus a few more).

Now we will learn about different kinds of poetry and put all these things into practice.  There are about 15 different types of poetry, but we will focus on just a few of the short ones.
Acrostic, Cinquain, Limerick, Free Verse and Haiku

Learn about each of these types of poems.  Find an example of your favorite type (other than the examples given) and memorize it.  Then write your own poem using one of these types.  Use some of the things we have learned about for writing your poem.  Come prepared to recite both poems.  (extra cash if you write one of each kind of poem.)
